The young woman, whose identity has not been released to public, had checked into the guest house with a male companion who has since vanished into thin air
Police in Mbale City are investigating the suspected murder of a 24-year-old woman whose body was discovered in a guesthouse along Soroti Highway in Namakwekwe Ward, Northern Division, on Sunday evening.
According to preliminary reports, the woman checked into the guesthouse in the morning, accompanied by an unidentified man.
Hours later, around 1 p.m., lodge staff found her lifeless body in the room and immediately alerted the police. The body was retrieved and taken to Mbale City mortuary as investigations continue. Authorities are working to identify and locate the man she was last seen with.
Police have yet to disclose the victim’s identity, pending notification of her family.
However, concerns have been raised over the handling of the crime scene, as the guesthouse remained operational and was not properly secured to preserve potential evidence.
A resident who witnessed the scene expressed concern about the integrity of the investigation. “There was no clear crime scene management. Guests were moving in and out freely. It was like nothing had happened,” the resident said.
Police have assured the public that they are following all leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
