Kampala, Uganda | General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has informed his nearly one million followers on X (formerly Twitter) that he will not be a candidate in the 2026 presidential elections.

In a series of posts on his official @mkainerugaba account, Gen. Muhoozi announced that he will instead support his father, President Yoweri Museveni, and concentrate on enhancing the military. President Museveni, who is now 80 years old, has been in power for over three decades.

“I would like to announce that I will not be on the ballot paper in 2026. Almighty God told me to focus on His Army first. So, I fully endorse President Yoweri Museveni in the next elections,” Muhoozi stated in one of his tweets.

He emphasized his dedication to the UPDF, saying, “For me, NOTHING on this earth is more sacred than the UPDF! So, I cannot think of a greater honour than serving in the UPDF. It is Holy Ground!! God bless the Holy UPDF and Sacred Uganda forever!!!”

In a bold warning, he added, “No civilian will lead Uganda after President Museveni. The security forces will not allow it. The next leader will be a soldier or policeman.”

Gen. Muhoozi’s statement has sparked discussions about Uganda’s future leadership and the influence of the military in the country’s political landscape.
